• I find it incredibly hypocritical for the same administration trumpeting themselves as "protecting freedom of expression" to be engaging in rampant censorship (right after the announcement about allowing Nazi ideology on the site, in fact) by employing a hugely broad definition of "pornography" in deciding what and whom to ban from the site.
• I find it insulting to my intelligence that the same people engaging in censorship of plenty of other stuff on this site expect me to believe that because they're making a big show of allowing Nazis to post hate art, they're now huge defenders of freedom of expression. No, actually, you're not. Anyone with a brain can figure out the disconnect between the moratorium on any art that might depict an erect penis or contain overly-erotic prose and then saying that you support freedom of expression for everyone, even Nazis. Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining- all this says is that Nazis get more consideration than erotic artists. It's hardly proof of some noble support for all free speech.
• As a Jew, I don't feel that I can in good conscience support a website that employs this kind of moral relativism. Were all erotic art permitted, I wouldn't be so angry about the apparent welcoming of Nazi art (though there is some dispute over whether that's what this actually is, due in part to the vagueness and poor wording of the Community Development mail in question), but the censorship of other, specific kinds of artwork makes this allowance of hate art a very clear, very specific exception to the rules, and I don't think it's unreasonable to ask why. Given that no one has been able to offer any kind of satisfactory explanation (i.e. one not based wholly in the fallacious idea that hate art and explict erotic art are "totally different" and have nothing to do with each other), I'm finding a picture being painted of those running this site that is not, to me, terribly admirable or flattering.
• I've read some comments saying, in essence, "Oh, just stay and use DA for your own purposes, don't worry about the admin's idiocy," and "Well, my friends are here, so I'll stick around." I can understand both (particularly in light of the fact that those with paid subscriptions can't get their money back- convenient for an administration who pays very little attention, it seems, to the wants, needs or opinions of its paying customers), but there's a problem: what impetus does the administration have to change if, despite all of this talk, no one bothers to hold them accountable for their actions? This isn't the first time the administration have gone the route of masturbatory self-congratulation in the wake of a ridiculous decision, at the same time demonstrating a complete disregard for the intelligence of the people paying to use their site. If no one bothers to express displeasure and follow through (i.e. with monetary consequences, which are what usually make things more clearly understood), what is the likelihood that better, more even-handed decisions will be made in the future? I see the chances as being very small.
